THE IMPOSSIBLE TEAM DO AMERICA, PART 1

Los Angeles; Mullholland Dr, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice, Ventura… The food, architecture, music, people and obviously their transportation devices… We don’t consider ourselves city people, and rather prefer the loneliness of the countryside, but the charm of this urban chaos  works. We doubt you can find a place on earth so amusing for a classic motor freak as this part of California proves itself to be. Its a theme park for gear-heads and vintage esthetes. Old cars and bikes roar along its beautifully aging bumpy roads, and decadent XX century architectural gems, exhibiting their patina and their usual lack of lacquer in a way you can’t see elsewhere. Its the battle of certain individuals & machines against consumerism and programmed obsolescence… and they seem to be winning! The Impossible Team has completed the first part of the trip, sorting everything out for the journey to the salt… but always stopping by on the way to visit some old friends and heros. . . TEAM IMPOSSIBLE DO AMERICA, PART 4: BONNEVILLE

What to say about good old Bonneville. Not the place for the timid or the slacker. Also not the place for spectators or tackle & run racers. Bonneville is all about a long term fight. A fight against the clock, a fight against oneself. The extreme natural conditions dictate that no living creature should ever disturb the peace of the salt, but as you already know, we humans, & specially fast ones, like to complicate things and play a sure death a couple of tricks just to show what we are capable of. (CLICK ON THE LINKED WORDS IF YOU WANT TO SEE OTHER CONTENT) Jeff Brock’s 1952 Buick But don’t be fooled by the need for speed. Speedweek is also an esthetic venture where it is also important to go fast with an attitude. At Bonneville, classic lines meet new design trends in a rad & distinct way we have only appreciated here. Jeff Brock’s Bombshell Buick recordbreaker, (above) ,is a fine example of this fabulous mix & match tendency. Never forget you are in the Nevada border… Digital Milk’s cool duct tape lettering on the Impossible Vans The 1958 Triton delivered all the “enjoyment” you should expect from a

TEAM IMPOSSIBLE DO AMERICA, PART 3

We have always acknowledged that one man’s trash will always be another man’s treasure, but it is in America were this sentence becomes righter than ever.   We were totally astonished by the level and abundance of improvised salvage yards in the, almost abandoned, mid western roads. In one of these sacrificed landscapes, Vincent even scored the roof racks, he had been long looking for, for his 1962 Ford Falcon! TO CATCH A DREAM

A dream can be normally conceived as a succession of images, emotions and sensations, that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. But these aren’t the dreams that interests El Solitario MC. As our regularly celebrated noble man, and cornerstone of this adventure, T.E. Lawrence came to say; “Not everybody dreams equally”. There are those that dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, loosing the content of their dreams to banality at dusk. But there are also dangerous men, that dream with their eyes wide open, (A plena luz!). Those men, if they find the courage to do so, might make these dreams possible, livable! The Impossible Team is one of those dreams that are pursued for ages, from dusk to dawn not while asleep. The dream of 3 men to conquer their optimum speed. A salty dream you could call it. Summer 2012 will be the time, these 3 ordinary men; Frenchman Vincent Prat (SouthsidersMC) and Spaniards; JR. Ortega (GoodforRetro) and David Borras (ElSolitarioMC), will try to meet their destiny on one of those places they have veneered for years, Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats. It is in Bonneville’s salty tracks, where for half

It was this mix of emotions and thoughts, together with a never ending desire to push the boundaries and go off on an adventure with rad pals, that lit the bulb for me. Why not take some electric offroad motorcycles on an overland unauthorised adventure? That’s right, unauthorised…because of the official absurdity of the idea, its unlikeliness of smooth success, and because we aren’t gonna ask any permits to ride. Unauthorised because the Cosmo (well…the technology) didn’t give the all safe and tested green light yet. Care not. We’ll pass the red light and ignore today’s paranoid system where everything must be carefully planned, controlled and safe. Screw that. It’s a gamble, sure, but what better way to electrify a life so badly sedated and alienated by the Covid craze?!

Never forget you are in the Nevada border… Digital Milk’s cool duct tape lettering on the Impossible Vans The 1958 Triton delivered all the “enjoyment” you should expect from a british mistress but did well in the end with no major incidents at 104.64 MPH with Commander Prat on the throttle.  We arrived on a stormy friday afternoon, listening like madmen to Gustav Holst’s The Planets in our hearts. Suddenly our Econoline Vans, packed with gear and motorcycles!!! left the tarmac for the desired soft white salt. Yeah!!! we thought… this could be heaven!!! But don’t be fooled… as the welcomed high winds, scattered with rains & electric discharge, only lasted for that afternoon, and the over heating punch, already planned for us, was just about to start. Bird’s view of tracks 1& 2 with their long lines and the pits far ahead on the left side The corrosive Salt was the perfect environment to test the all new El Solitario Red Selvage Overalls, and they proved to be the perfect companion for all your motorcycle adventures You should hear the way this BMW R50 motor revved up… Crazy! 4 tracks; track number 4 is the shortest, (3 miles) ideal for less fast vehicles and mandatory for rookie contestants. Tracks 3 & 2 are longer & closer to the almighty 1, which is 9 miles long and beholds the fastest pushrod vehicles on the planet. George Poteet and his SpeedDemon battling against themselves for the fourth consecutive year, did 417 MPH, becoming the fastest push rods vehicle on earth. Don’t remember this man’s name but he was cool dude and his T120 had bitching details all over it. Also got a record and went home with a big grin. Tyler Malinky and the Low Brow Double Vision. The bike is even more astonishing when you get closer & so is the fabulous crew. They got a record that afternoon and confirmed it the next morning at sunrise. Good! Flames are
